16 Men's Squad for T20 Series against West Indies A

The Cricket Association of Nepal has announced to host 5 T20 matches With West Indies A side on April 8. The continuous approach by Nepal’s Coach Monty Desai and CAN resulted in this Nepal vs West Indies A series in Nepal.

West Indies had already indicated that despite being named ‘A’ Side, Strong and quality West Indies players who are currently not involved in league cricket like IPL will be touring Nepal.

Results are not much different as a very strong side of West Indies packed with quality and experienced squad is announced. 

The Head coach of white ball cricket of West Indies Daren Sammy said “ From a coaching perspective, the Nepal tour couldn’t have come at a more opportune time. It offers us a chance to refine our World Cup Squad, defining roles and personnel more clearly. Additionally, with Nine players in the IPL, we can truly gauge and push the limits of our T20 team’s depth.” 

The last time Nepal and West Indies had clashed in an ODI game was in the ICC World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe at Harare Sports Club. West Indies while batting first put 339 runs on the board with a brilliant century from Shai Hope and Nicholas Pooran.

Nepal only managed to put 238 runs on board getting all out in 49.4 overs and West Indies won the match by 101 runs.

The team will be touring for a five-match T20 series in preparation for the T20 World Cup which will be the West Indies Tour of Nepal under the leadership of Roston Chase and his deputy Alick Athanaze.

Match Fixtures for Nepal vs West Indies A

The five-match T20 series of Nepal vs West Indies A side will be played from 27 April to 4 May at TU ground Kritipur. The first match will be played on the 27th of April at 12: 15 Nepal’s local time.

First T20: April 27 (Saturday)
Second T20: April 28 (Sunday)
Third T20: May 1 (Wednesday)
Fourth T20: May 2 (Thursday)
Fifth T20: May 4 (Saturday)

5 Strength and Weakness of Nepal against West Indies A side

Strength of Nepal 

  •  Head coach Monty Desai who had already served as the Batting coach of the West Indies Side from December 2019 to 2022 will be crucial to tackling the strong and weaker zones of the West Indies batting side not only in Nepal vs West Indies game but also in World Cup.
  •  Roderick O. Estwick, a bowling consultant for Nepal also served West Indies in the same role which will give an edge to the Nepali side in getting bowling key strengths and weaknesses of different West Indies bowlers.
  • Nepal becomes a more stable bowling unit with an experienced consultation of Roderick O. Estwick as Nepali raw players are expected to be guided by Estwick in the series and journey to the T20 World Cup.
  • Nepal playing in their home ground is also a fair advantage for Nepal as the Twelfth Man army shows huge support for Nepal in every game.
  • Dipendra Singh Airee is expected to be Key player for his 3-dimensional role in batting, fielding, and bowling in Nepal vs west Indies game.

Weakness of Nepal

  • The Nepali Side had just ended up losing back-to-back two knockout matches against UAE in the semi-finals and Hong Kong too despite remaining unbeaten in the group stage.
  • Nepal’s regular Opener Kushal Bhurtel looks in poor form struggling against lower-ranking teams in the ACC Mens Premier Cup with 3 back-to-back ducks in his name.
  •  Nepal had a poor experience in facing big giants of cricket, Nepal had faced West Indies only once in international format in the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier at Harare Sports Club and ended up losing by 101 runs.
  • In the last few Knockout Matches Nepal had bad records and poor performance as they lost to Oman at home ground in the final, Lost against PNG in the final, lost against UAE in the semis of the ACC Cup, and lost to Hong Kong in their last match.
  • Nepal’s premium fast bowlers Sompal Kami and Karan Kc struggled with the ball picking up only 4 wickets and 3 wickets respectively in the ACC Premier Cup which is a big stress in Nepal vs West Indies game.
