USA vs Canada: USA won by 7 Wickets

USA and Canada locked horns in the inaugural match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup where USA defeated Canada by 7 wickets with 14 balls remaining and bagged 2 crucial points.

The USA won the toss in the inaugural match and invited the visitors to bat first at Grand Prairie Stadium.

Canada opened their inning with Opening batsmen Aaron Johnson and Navneet Dhaliwal while Ali Khan with the new ball for the USA.

 Canada opened brilliantly in the powerplay overs losing only one of their opening batter Aaron Johnson and added 50 runs for the loss of 1 wicket with a run rate of 8.33. 

Aaron Johnson departed scoring 23 runs in 16 balls with 4 boundaries at a strike rate of 143. 25. 

Pargat Singh was the new man at No.3 for Canada but couldn’t make it long on the ground and got an unfortunate run out by Jasdeep Singh for just 5 runs while playing 7 deliveries.

Nicholas Kirton was the new man at No. 4 for Canada, Nicholas and Navneet stabilized the inning after a powerful Powerplay overs. 

Navneet Dhaliwal also departed after playing an impactful knock of 61 runs from 44 deliveries including 6 boundaries and 3 maximum with a strike rate of 138.64. 

Nicholas Kirton boosted the runs-making in the middle overs with his 51 runs in 31 deliveries with 3 boundaries and 2 maximum at a strike rate of 164.52. 

Shreyas Movaa entered at No 5 for Canada and played an unbeaten 32 runs with a strike rate of 200 in just 16 balls including 2 boundaries and 2 maximum.

Shreyas Movaa’s powerful boost in the death overs led Canada to a very strong defendable total of 194 runs with the loss of 5 wickets. 

On the bowling side, Ali Khan, Harmeet Singh, and Corey Anderson picked up 1 wicket each for the side and 2 runs out by Steven Taylor and Jasdeep Singh.

USA vs Canada 2nd Inning 

With a strong total on the board to chase USA started with hopes and confidence after defeating Bangladesh by 2–1 in the 3-match T20I Series.

USA opened the innings with their regular opener batters Monank Patel and Steven Taylor while Kaleem Sana opened with the ball for Canada.

Kaleem Sana strikes early in just the second ball of the first over to dismiss Steven Taylor with an LBW. 

Andries Gous was the new man at No. 3 for the USA. Andries and Monank gave a start to the USA in the big run chase but Monak Patel got caught by Shreyas Movva in the seventh over of the inning and Dillion Heyliger got his first wicket and the USA was reduced to 42/2 after 6.3 overs after Monank Patel scored 16 runs in 16 deliveries. 

Aaron Jones was the new man at No. 4 for the USA, Jones and Andries not only stabilized the inning in the middle overs but also accelerated in the middle overs setting 131 runs partnership that pulled the game to the USA side.

The partnership between these two pulled the game from the Jaws of defeat from the Canadian side. 

Canada was the favorite to win the game after Canada scored a mammoth total of 194 runs to the boards which looked quite difficult for the USA side to chase until 8 overs of the second innings.

Aaron Jones accelerated the inning for the USA side smashing 94 runs in just 40 deliveries with 4 boundaries and 10 maximum with a strike rate of 235. 

Andries Gous’s inning remains vital for the USA side while losing both of their openers early in the run chase. Gous departed scoring 64 runs in 46 balls with 7 fours and 3 sixes at a strike rate of 141.30.

The USA chased down the massive-looking target of 194 runs in just 17.4 overs with 14 balls remaining and warned all other teams about their strong arrival in the World Cup after defeating Bangladesh in the 3-match T20I series by 2–1 previously and Canada by their dominating batting.
