Punjab Kings pulled off the highest run chase in IPL history from jaws of defeat after successfully chasing a total of 261 in the 42nd match of IPL 2024 against Kolkata Knight Rider at eden gardens.
Punjab Kings showcased a dominating runchase in the second inning from beginning to end to set the record for the highest run chase in IPL history by chasing a total of 261 in just 18.4 overs.

1st Inning
Punjab Kings won the coin flip and elected to bowl first against the dangerous batting-packed unit of Kolkata at Eden Gardens.
Usual Opener batters Sunil Narine and Phil Salt dominated in the power play and the first half of the game. The opening partnership was finally broken at 138 runs on the eleventh over as Sunil Narine got caught by Jonny Bairstow.
Sunil Narine departed adding 71 runs to the board in 32 balls with 9 fours and 4 sixes at a strike rate of 221.88
Venkatesh Iyer added 39 runs in 23 deliveries with 3 fours and 2 sixes at a strike rate of 169.57.
Phil Salt added 75 runs in 37 deliveries with 6 boundaries and 6 maximum at a strike rate of 202.70.
Andre Russel and Shreyash Iyer maximized the runs in the death overs scoring 24 runs in 12 deliveries and 28 runs in 10 deliveries.
Kolkata Knight Rider posted mammoth a giant target 262 to the board which was never chased in the IPL history.
The previous highest successful chase was with Rajasthan Royals. Royal had chased 223 runs against Punjab Kings in 2020 making 226 runs in just 19.3 overs with Sanju Samson as the Player of the Match.
2nd Inning ( Highest Run chase in Ipl)
Punjab Kings who were slow and struggling in the tournament were not favourites and expected to win this match to set the record of highest run chase in ipl in this tough situation but Jonny Bairstow came out of the syllabus and scored stunning hundreds in just 45 deliveries with 8 boundaries and 9 maximum in his name at a strike rate of 225 for Punjab Kings to become the Player of the Match.
The Opening Batters Prabhsimran Singh and Jonny Bairstow added 93 runs on the boards in the first power play while losing their opener batter Prabhsimran Singh for 54 runs in 20 deliveries with four boundaries and 5 maximum at a strike rate of 270 runs.
Rile Rossow came at No 3 for Kings and departed after playing a quick knock of 26 runs in 16 balls with 1 boundary and 2 maximum at a strike rate of 162.50.
Rossow’s departure at 178/2 caused dangerous in-form batter Shashank Singh to enter the crease at No 4 for PBKS.
Shashank Singh started with a bang in the high-voltage pressure game for Punjab Kings and brought up his half-century in just 23 balls with a stylish six against Harshit Rana.
Singh remains unbeaten at 68 runs in 28 deliveries and Jonny Bairstow remains unbeaten at 108 runs in 48 deliveries and leads Punjab Kings to taste their third victory of the season in just 18.4 overs to deliver the highest run chase in ipl history.
