Jonny Bairstow made a stunning comeback in IPL 2024 with a century against Kolkata Knight Riders after struggling and getting dropped in the early matches of IPL 2024.

Bairstow’s 108 runs in just 48 deliveries with eight fours and 9 sixes at a strike rate of 225 helped Punjab Kings to set a record for the Highest run chase in IPL’s long history.

Batting first at home ground Eden Gardens Kolkata got a solid start with their in-form opening batter Sunil Narine and Phil Salt.

Sunil Narine and Phil Salt set 138 runs partnership for the first wicket dominating the first half of the game before he got caught by Jonny Bairstow at an individual score of 71 runs in 32 deliveries.

Phil Salt contributed 75 runs, Venkatesh 39 runs, Andre Russell 24 runs, and a quick knock of Skipper Shreyash Iyer of 28 runs in 10 deliveries led the KKR to post a massive 261 to the boards.

Bairstow had struggled a lot in early matches of Punjab Kings. He hadn’t eveb managed to get half-century in first six matches he played. Skipper of Punjab Kings Sam Curran dropped him in seventh and eight match due to his consistent poor performances in the game.

Punjab Kings opener batter Bairstow and Prasbhsimran Singh with heads high came out to open the inning and opened the inning with a bang for PBKS adding 93 runs in the powerplay.

Jonny Bairstow and Prabsimran Singh showcased their skill giving Pujab a solid start.

Jonny Bairstow first completed his fifty in just 23 deliveries and then boosted towards his century and completed his century in just 45 balls with eight fours and nine sixes.

Bairstow remains unbeaten at 108 runs in 48 deliveries with Shashank Singh unbeaten at 68 runs in 28 deliveries.

Shashank played a crucial role at the end in pulling the victory from the jaws of defeat chasing the massive total of 261 runs in just 18.4 overs.
