Mumbai Indian registered the lowest score of IPL 2024 against Rajasthan Royals at their home ground Wankhede Stadium on April 1 to lose their 3rd Consecutive Match in IPL 2024.

Mumbai played its 1st home match against Rajasthan Royals at Wankhede Stadium on April 1 after losing 2 away matches against Gujarat Titans and Sunriser Hyderabad. Mumbai surrendered on 125/9 after playing for a full 20 overs. Rajasthan Royals elected to bowl first winning the toss against the home team. Regular openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan opened for Mumbai whereas Trent Boult opened with the new ball. 

Trent Boult is known for taking Power Play wickets and strikes once again in the first over and didn’t upset his skipper by dismissing Rohit Sharma for a golden duck as the ball got outside the edge and went to the right of Sanju Samson, Samson dived to send Rohit back to the pavilion. With this duck Rohit Sharma registered the h joint highest 17 duck in the history of IPL along with Dinesh Kartik.

Naman Dhir entered at No. 3 for Mumbai after Rohit’s departure but Namam Dhir also got an unfortunate LBW out on the very first ball and Boult got his second and Mumbai was in deep trouble. Trent Boult back in his second over for his hattrick delivery but missed it after Ishan Kishan cut it toward the backward point for a single. 

New man Dewal Brevis faced the first ball of Trent Boult to register yet another Golden duck for Mumbai Indian. Brevis went back to the pavilion stunning the home crowd into complete silence. Boult got his 3rd wicket and Mumbai Indians were 16/3 after 3 overs.

Tension peaked in Mumbai Indians’s dugout when well-set opener Ishan Kishan got an outside edge caught behind the stumps and got back to Pavilion. Mumbai’s top order suffered a complete collapse against Rajasthan’s bowlers. Mumbai was reduced to 20/4 after the end of 4th over. 

Skipper Pandya and Tilak Verma were two new men in the crease looking to stabilize the collapsed inning of Mumbai to lead to a respectable total from nowhere. Both the batters were coming back to rhythm setting a partnership and leading MI from the front end but Yuzvendra Chahal did the work for the Royals luring the skipper to go for a lofted shot. Pandya mistimed it and got caught by Rovman Powell. Hardik Departed after quick 34 runs in 21 deliveries including 6 fours in his name but still not sufficient for Mumbai as Half of their side was already back to the Pavilion. Mumbai Indians were at 77/5 after Skipper’s departure.

New man Piyush Chawla came in at No. 7 but added nothing much on the scoreboard and got caught by Shimron Hetmyer and Avesh Khan got his first wicket of the innings. Chawla departed with a personal score of 3(6) leaving Mumbai in a tough situation 83/6. Tim David came to bat at No 8 while Tilak Verma was struggling from the other end to set a defendable target. Yuzvendra Chahal strikes yet again and dismisses the set man Tilak Verma for 32(29) with 2 sixes. 

Mumbai Indians were completely floated away by Rajasthan’s wave. Gerald Coetzee struggled in the middle to get somewhere to a respectable total. In the end, Mumbai Indians only managed to score 125 playing a full 20 overs losing 9 wickets.  With 125/9 Mumbai Indians registerd the lowest Total in the board of IPL 2024. Previously MI had conceded the Highest runs against Sunriser Hyderabad 277 runs in the history of IPL.

On the Bowling side, Trent Boult showcased his excellence in power play bowling dismissing 3 top-order batters for 3 Golden Duck. Yuzvendra Chahal in the middle overs took 3 wickets giving away just 11 runs in 4 over with an economy of 2.75. Nandre Burger completed his spell and took 2 wickets giving away just 32 runs with an economy rate of 8.00. Avesh Khan also attends the wicket pools with 1 wicket in his name with an economy of 7.50. Ravichandran Ashwin remains wicketless yet economical giving away just 27 runs with an economy rate of 6.75.

Mumbai Indians will play their next match against Delhi Capitals on 7April, Sunday looking for their first victory of the season.
