Match Summary RR vs PBKS: Rajasthan Royals won by 2O runs

Rajasthan Royals beats Lucknow Super Giants by 20 runs on the home ground at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur. Rajasthan’s Skipper Sanju Samson got the toss in his favor and opted to bat first at day condition

1st Innings

Young Yashaswi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler entered the crease to open for the Royals. Mohsin Khan was brought into the attack by LSG. Jaiswal was at No. 5 last year with 625 runs at an average of 48 in 14 matches.

Naveen-ul-Haq dismissed Opening batter Jos Buttler for just 10 runs and Buttler had to walk back to the pavilion. Skipper Samson walked himself in after the early dismissal of Buttler. Sanju Samson and Jaiswal started to build the inning for the Royals but Jaiswal couldn’t resist long in the crease and got out after fiery knock of 24(12) with 3 four and a six and RR were 49/2 at the end of the 5th over.

Riyan Parag walks in to stabilize the inning with Samson. They started adding runs to the scoreboard and completely dominated LSG’s Bowler in the middle over. Samson completed his fifty in style in just 33 balls. The 63-run partnership came to an end after Naveen-ul-Haq dismissed Riyan Parag for 43 runs in 29 deliveries with 1 four and 3 sixes. RR was 142/3 after 15 over.

Shimron Hetmyer came at no 5 looking to finish the inning on a high note but couldn’t add much on the scoreboard and got out for just 5 runs. 

Samson was looking strong despite wickets falling from the other end. Dhruv Jurel’s cameo knock of 20 runs in 12 deliveries at the end and Samson’s unbeaten 82(52) including 3 fours and 6 sixes led Royals to strong totals of 193 runs on the board. 

LSG had to make it 194 to get 2 points on the points table. On the Bowling side, Naveen-ul-Haq picked up 2 wickets giving away 41 runs in his 4-over spell. Mohsin Khan and Ravi Bishnoi picked 1 wicket each. Birthday boy Krunal Pandya remains most economical yet wicketless in his 4-over spell.

THE RUN CHASE

LSG enters the run chase with an opening batter Quinton De Kock and KL Rahul. Trent Boult picks up 2 early wickets for the Royals. Boult dismissed Quinton de Kock at 4 runs and Devdutt Padikal for a duck. Nandre Burger also joined the party as he dismissed Ayush Badoni for just 1 run.

Tension peaked for Lucknow’s Pavillion as they were reduced to 11/3 in just 3.1 overs KL Rahul was looking consistent and strong despite wickets falling from the other end.

Deepak Hooda’s strong cameo in the middle pushed up Giant’s inning but he couldn’t resist long as he had to walk back to the pavilion for just 26 runs in 13 balls. LSG were 60/4 after 7.3 overs.

Nicholas Pooran came in at No 6 to build innings with well-set KL Rahul in the middle. They both boosted the scoreboard with a good partnership between them. Skipper KL played a brilliant knock of 58 runs in 44 deliveries. Nicholas Pooran from the other end looking to make the run chase possible. 

Despite a great partnership in the middle over and making the run chase seem possible but 2 wickets in the 17th and 18th overs completely pull the game away from Giants. In the end, LSG fell 20 runs short of registering their 1st victory in 1st game and Rajasthan Royals won the match by 20 runs. LSG managed to score 173 runs in 20 over.

On the bowling side, Trent Boult picked up 2 early wickets for RR giving away just 35 runs. Nandre Burger, Ravichandran Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Sandeep Sharma picked up 1 wicket each. Avesh Khan remains wicketless bowling just 3 overs.
