Andries Gous Gave a tough fight to South Africa: SA vs USA

USA cricketer Andries Gous tried his best to pull the game toward the USA side but fell short of 20 runs in the first match of Super Eight against South Africa.  Andries Gous is a South African born 30 years old crickter who plays for USA and gave a tough fight in the match SA vs USA.

The USA won the toss and elected to bowl first in the first match of the Super Eight played at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.

1st Inning SA vs USA

Reeza Hendricks and Quinton de Kock opened the inning for South Africa while opened the inning while Saurabh Netravalkar opened the inning with the new ball for USA. 

South Africa got a flying start in the powerplay overs losing only one of their opener Reeza Hendricks and scoring 64/1 at the rate of 10.66. 

Saurabh Netravalkar picked up 1 wicket dismissing Reeza Hendricks in his second over.

South Africa was going with above 10 per over in the middle overs too until Harmeet Singh picked up 2 wickets dismissing set man Quinton de Kock and David Miller in the first 2 balls of the 13th over. 

Quinton de Kock departed for 74 runs in 40 deliveries including 7 boundaries and 5 maximum at the strike rate of 185.00 while David Miller returned to the pavilion for a golden duck. 

Saurabh Netravalkar dismissed another set man Aiden Marakaram at 46 runs in 32 balls including 4 boundaries and a maximum in his name and South Africa was 141/1 at the end of 15 overs.

Heinrich Klassen and Tristan Stubbs were the two new men in at the crease and finished well for the side and the scoreboard at the end of 20 overs is 194/4. 

Though South Africa scored 194/4 however USA bowling side was also pretty good just 3 overs bowled by Corey Anderson’s 17 runs of 1 over, and Jasdeep Singh’s 36 runs off 2 overs cost the game for the USA.  

2nd Innings SA vs USA

With 195 to chase, USA opened with their regular opener batters Steven Taylor and Andries Gous while Marco Yansen with the ball. 

The USA started well in the power play over but also lost 2 wickets of their opener batter Steven Taylor who departed for 25 runs in 14 balls including 4 boundaries and a maximum and Rabada got his first wicket.

Rabada makes it 2 in the last over of the power play dismissing Nitish Kumar for just a mere 8 runs in 6 balls. 

The USA was 53/2 after the end of the first power play-overs. Keshav Maharaj was introduced immediately after the fielding restrictions were removed and he dismissed the dangerous man Aaron Jones for a duck in his first over.

At the end halfway stage USA was 73/4 as they lost another worthy batter Corey Anderson in the 10th over and the USA needed 122 runs off 60 balls to register the win while Andries Gous was there at the crease from the beginning at the other end. 

Shayan Jahangir also couldn’t add much to the board and got dismissed for just 3 runs as Tabraiz Shamsi strike in his first over. 

Harmeet Singh was the new man in at the crease. Harmeet Singh and Andries Gous started adding runs for the USA as they were still much in the game. 

The USA needed 60 runs in the final 4 overs with Andries Gous at 58 runs in 36 balls while Singh at 25 runs in 14 balls.

Andries Gous and Harmeet Singh went big on the 18th over and added 22 runs off the over smashing 3 big sixes to Shamshi. Tabraiz Shamshi ended his spell conceding 50 runs with 1 wicket in his name.

The USA needed only 28 runs off the final 2 overs but Rabada completely changed the game for South Africa dismissing Singh in the first ball and conceding just 2 runs in the penultimate over.

The USA added 7 more runs off the final over of Anrich Nortje but fell short of 18 more runs and lost the match by 18 runs. 

The South African side is yet to be defeated in the T20 World Cup registering their 4th win of the tournament. Quinton de Kock became the Player of the Match. 

South Africa will face more experienced sides England and the West Indies in the Super Stage ahead.
