How Nepal Can Qualify for the Super Eight Stages?

Yes, Nepal can still qualify for the Super Eight Stages despite having 1 point in the points table and being in 4th place at Group D just above Srilanka.

Nepal is placed in Group D along with big giants of the Cricket world like South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and associate nation Netherlands. 

Nepal is yet to win the match in the group stage however Nepal’s chance for qualification in the Super-eight is still alive in the tournament. 

Before We delve deep into How Nepal can qualify for the Super Eight stages let’s look at the points table of Group D.

South Africa standing tall on the points table is unbeaten in the tournament with 6 points. Bangladesh at second, Netherlands at third place, and Srilanka at the bottom. 

South Africa is already qualified for the Super Eight stage while the Netherlands, Bangladesh, and Nepal are in a race for qualification.

Nepal’s Qualification Scenario for Super Eight

Nepal had got 1 point in the points table after the match Nepal vs Sri Lanka was abandoned due to rain and both teams shared the point resulting in Nepal getting 1 point. 

The Netherlands defeated Nepal in their first match and had the remaining two matches against South Africa and Bangladesh to be played at Arnos Vale Stadium. 

Nepal will play against South Africa on June 15 and against Bangladesh on June 17 at Arnos Vale Stadium. 

Nepal needs to win against both South Africa and Bangladesh. If Nepal wins the match against South Africa on 15 June then Match against Bangladesh will be the decider. 

The Good news for the Nepali Squad is their key player Sandeep Lamichhane has joined the squad replacing Pratish GC in West Indies and will play the remaining two matches against South Africa and Bangladesh.

Lamichhane had missed the first 2 games of Nepal in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup due to his visa issues with the US embassy.

The team will now play at their full strength to qualify for the Super Eight stages after including Sandeep Lamichhane.

Bangladesh is currently on 4 points while 3 matches have already been played will play its last match against Nepal and the condition Nepal beats South Africa Nepal will be at 3 points. 

 If Nepal beats Bangladesh in their last game too then Nepal will qualify for the Super Eight Stages along with South Africa with 5 points in the points table.
