Nicholas Pooran Missed Well Deserved Century: AFG vs WI

Nicholas Pooran missed a well-deserved century By just 2 runs against the AFG VS WI match suffering an unfortunate runout by Azhmatullah Omarzai however West Indies won the match by 104 runs. 

West Indies defeated Afghanistan in their last match of the Group stage. Nicholas Pooran’s 98 runs in just 53 deliveries helped West Indies to post a massive total of 218 runs in 20 overs.

Afghanistan won the coin flip and elected to bowl first at Beausejour Cricket Stadium where Brandon King and Roston Charles opened the inning for West Indies.

West Indies started well in the powerplay striking over 10 runs per over. The massive over of Azmatullah Omarzai where he conceded 36 runs in his second over gave West Indies a great boost in the power play overs.

West Indies registered the highest powerplay score in the Men’s T20 World Cup. West Indies were 92/1 at a run rate of 15.33 where Nicholas Pooran scored 36 runs in 13 balls and Johnson Charles 35 runs in 19 balls. 

Nicholas Pooran had entered the crease at No. 3 for West Indies after the departure of Brandon King in the second over.

Afghanistan took 5 wickets of the West Indies but couldn’t find a solution for Nicholas Pooran until the last over of the inning when Afghanistan successfully runout Pooran but Pooran had already destroyed the Afghanistan Bowling lineup. 

Fazalhaq Farooqi who was in a good flow with the ball got beaten for 38 runs in just 3 overs with an economy of 12.67.

Skipper Rashid Khan also had a bad day with the ball conceding 45 runs in his 4-over spell at an economy rate of 11.25. 

Gulbadin Naib and Naveen-ul-Haq were the only wicket-taking bowlers on the Afghanistan side.

However, the West Indies attack slowed down in the middle overs and again accelerated in the death overs scoring 218 runs to the total. 

Afghanistan in the run chase suffered early as their opening batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz went back to the pavilion for a duck.

Ibrahim Zadran was the highest scorer for Afghanistan’s side with 38 runs in 28 balls followed by Ozmatullah Omarzai

West Indies’ bowling lineup showcased their brilliant blowing where none of the bowlers were wicketless, Obed McCoy took 3 wickets. Gudakesh Motie and Akeal Hossain took 2 wickets each for the side also Andre Russell and Alzarri Joseph took 1 wicket each for the side. 

Afghanistan’s batting lineup completely collapsed this time as they got bundled up for just 114 runs in just 16.2 overs and West Indies won the last match of the group stage by a huge margin of 104 runs.
